Our final community focus group meeting focused on Global Citizenship. This is an emerging concept at VHS, something being used in pockets around campus rather than something we’ve focused on collectively. The idea, of course, is that this begins to change starting next year.
We followed the typical focus group format, starting with a recap of what we’ve been up to since the last meeting, and then did our typical deep dive into the topic. This time around, that deep dive was lead by Colonel Lostetter and two of his cadets. They ran the group through a simulation that required them to formulate ideas and make decision recommendations through the lens of a truly global actor. It was an informative and engaging activity and helps us get a sense for the importance of developing global literacies in our students.
In addition to the above activity, we had a brief discussion about a tool we’ll be using with 9th graders next year that helps them get a clearer picture of their interests, and how these interests might help them identify work styles and career interests that align with their preferences.
If you’d like, you can take the “Strong Interest Inventory” as well. If interested, please click HERE to take the assessment (it’s very quick, just 5-8 minutes). Click the Sign Up button, use Promo Code VUSDVH-SP17, and then just follow the steps.
Naturally, along the way we got feedback from the group and will continue to use this feedback to refine and improve the work we’re doing as we build for next year and beyond.
Focus Group Presentation
The slide presentation for this meeting has loads of useful information, including links to the teacher presentations. Please take a moment to scroll through it and, if you have any questions or need clarification about anything, please reach out, we’re happy to help.
Throughout the meeting, we requested feedback from the group using an anonymous polling tool. If you’re interested to read through it, the results of that feedback are below.

Video from the Meeting
And, if you were unable to attend the meeting, we do live stream them on Youtube, and of course, we record those live streams as well. The video from that meeting is embedded here, and you can also find it on Youtube directly.
